Detecting chronic kidney disease in diabetic adults by estimating glomerular filtration rate and Serum Creatinine
نویسندگان
چکیده
Objective: To assess CKD prevalence and risk factors including socio-demography among diabetics by estimating GFR rather than serum creatinine (sCr).
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Dec. 15 2019 through Aug. 2020, 800 attending tertiary diabetes centers, Baghdad. Data collected self-administered questionnaire. SPSS used for data analysis (mean, standard deviation T-test) quantitative variables (frequency, percentage, Chi-square test Kappa index) qualitative variables. P-Value less 0.05 considered significant.
Results: last 5-40 years, 95.6% with type2. Aged 52.1±13.2 male: female ratio 1.03:1, 63.6% were no income, sCr level 0.86±0.3 mg/dl, eGFR Cockcroft Gault (CG) CKD-EPI equations 100.4±36.5 & 92.2±25.5 ml/min/1.73m2 respectively. based on sCr, assessed above 13.3%, 20% 15.9% respectively (p<0.001). Those hypertensive, females, living peripheries.
Conclusions: Diabetic patients, mainly those are more likely to develop CKD. It is better detect intially the GFR, alone. Furthermore, using equation might be CG formula estimate GFR.

Evaluation of Glomerular Filtration Rate Estimating Formulas in Diabetic Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease
Objective: Measurement of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is the best determinant in assessment of kidney function for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. As extremely accurate methods of GFR measurement (i.e. Inulin clearance) are expensive and Time-consuming and due to limitations of the 24 hour urine collection method, some formula have been developed for the GFR measurement. Here we have ...

متن کاملEstimating glomerular filtration rate using the chronic kidney disease-epidemiology collaboration creatinine equation: better risk predictions.
Serum creatinine is measured more than 280 million times annually in the United States, and more than 80% of clinical laboratories now report an estimated glomerular filtration rate (GFR) when serum creatinine is measured.1,2 The most commonly used equation is the Modification of Diet and Renal Disease (MDRD) Study equation. Recently, the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-E...
متن کاملCystatin C is Better than Serum Creatinine for Estimating Glomerular Filtration Rate to Detect Osteopenia in Chronic Kidney Disease Patients
PURPOSE Recent studies have reported that loss of bone mass is associated with renal function decline and increased fracture risks in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the best estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) equation to detect osteopenia in CKD patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS This was a cross-sectional study, and 780 patients aged 50 ...
متن کاملRace differences in prevalence of chronic kidney disease among young adults using creatinine-based glomerular filtration rate-estimating equations.
BACKGROUND Despite a higher incidence of end-stage renal disease (stage 5), blacks have been shown to have the same or lower prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD stages 3 and 4). Current creatinine-based glomerular filtration rate (GFR)-estimating equations may misclassify young, healthy blacks. METHODS Among 3501 young adults (mean age 45), we compared the prevalence of CKD in blacks an...
